PAPER BOUNDARIES
Challenges, identities, policies for the changing mountains
The International Alpine Network Conference “Paper boundaries: Challenges, identities, and policies for the changing mountain” will be held from November 24 to 26, 2025, at IULM University in Milan. The event is also valid for teacher training. The conference will explore the profound changes affecting mountain areas.
The program is structured into four thematic sessions. The first day, November 24, will focus on changes in ecosystems and their components, analyzing how mountains respond to climate change and abandonment. On November 25, the second session will address vertical migrations and new forms of “restanza” (remaining) in Italian “metromountains”. This will be followed by the third session, dedicated to new economies that can keep mountains productive, such as remote work, digital nomadism, and green professions. The fourth and final session, also on November 25, will explore policy perspectives and governance to tackle the challenges of mountain territories. The conference will conclude on November 26 with an excursion to Val Seriana, including a visit to the Ecomuseum Miniere di Gorno and the locality of Castione della Presolana-Bratto.
